Introducing... Counseling with Kaylen

Updated: Dec 28, 2022

Hi, my name is Kaylen Hilton, the founder and owner of Counseling with Kaylen. Welcome to my blog! As you might figure out from the name, Counseling with Kaylen is a counseling practice that offers mental health services. This includes everything from individual sessions to group sessions to christian counseling. Those, however, are just the basics.

I first started on this journey of Counseling with Kaylen back when I was in middle school (yes, middle school) and started wanting to be a therapist. My hope was that I could one day help people who were going through hard times and felt the way I had been feeling. When I was in sixth grade, I was diagnosed with epilepsy, a seizure disorder. After receiving this diagnosis, I felt different and rejected, and I started to experience feelings of anxiety and depression. However, this experience also inspired me. I knew there were many people who experience anxiety, depression, and more . My hope was that I would one day be able to help.

Heading into college, I knew *exactly* what I wanted to do. I was determined to get a degree in psychology. One day, while chatting with a therapist who had come into the YMCA where I worked at the front desk, they told me about a way I might could graduate faster. They explained how if I got my bachelor's in social work, I could do an accelerated master's program and become what I had always wanted to be even faster. Though it all made sense in my head, my heart had always planned on a psychology degree. How could I change now? I ended up deciding to meet with a social work advisor to ask a few questions, and it all came together. I switched my degree, and now have both a Bachelor's and Master's of Social Work from the University of Georgia.

After graduation, I work almost two years at the community service board I had interned at in college. Then, in 2020, I transitioned into working with a group practice and eventually out into the private practice world.

Counseling with Kaylen was born!
